JLPT N1Idioms

Meaning
Explanation
「敵に塩を送る」 means deliberately extending a helping hand when an enemy is in distress. It originates from the anecdote that Uesugi Kenshin sent salt to Takeda Shingen, who was suffering from a salt shortage. c3 "taking advantage of a weakness" is the exact opposite act; the core is that it refers to the chivalrous spirit shown even amid conflict.
