JLPT N3Idioms
頭が痛い
- Meaning
- 解決が難しい問題があって悩んでいる
- Explanation
- 「頭が痛い」 means having a problem that is hard to solve and worrying about what to do. It is also used when one's head literally hurts, but as an idiom it expresses the feeling of 「being troubled by a worry」. It does not mean being clever, so it differs from 「頭の回転が速い」 (quick-witted).
Original Japanese explanation
「頭が痛い」は、なかなか解決できない問題があって、どうすればいいか悩むという意味です。本当に頭が痛いときにも使いますが、慣用句では「心配ごとで困っている」気持ちを表します。賢いという意味ではないので「頭の回転が速い」とは違います。
