Meaning
Explanation
「李下(りか)に冠を正さず」 is a caution that one should avoid confusing actions that might invite suspicion. It comes from the idea that adjusting one's cap under a plum tree would arouse suspicion of stealing the fruit. It is used paired with 「瓜田に履を納れず」. c3 「身だしなみを整える」 (to tidy one's appearance) is an error drawn from the literal wording.
