Translation

An "お弁当" (bento) is a meal packed into a box to carry and eat outside. In Japan, it has long been commonly made.

Inside a bento, you put rice and various おかず (side dishes). Tamagoyaki (rolled egg), karaage (fried chicken), and vegetables are popular. Many people make it look nice, thinking about the colors and arrangement.

Sometimes a child's bento is shaped like an anime character. This is called "キャラ弁" (character bento).

In spring, some people eat a bento while doing お花見 (cherry-blossom viewing). Bento are often carried not only to school or work, but also on fun outings.
