How miso soup is made, why every family's tastes different, and where the bowl goes on the table. JLPT N5 reading with translation.

Translation

みそしる is a warm soup that often appears in Japanese meals. It is made by dissolving みそ into a soup stock called "だし".

What is put inside varies from household to household. People add とうふ, わかめ, ねぎ, vegetables, and so on. That is why the flavor differs a little from home to home.

It is often eaten together with rice. In Japanese cuisine (和食), it is said that the basic arrangement is to place the rice on the left and the みそしる on the right. This is for reasons such as making it easier to eat for people who hold their chopsticks with the right hand.

Warm みそしる warms up your body. Many people drink it at breakfast.
