Ojigi: how to bow in Japan

Light, medium and deep bows: when to use each, and why a deeper bow shows a stronger feeling. JLPT N5 reading with translation.

A bow in which you lower your head a little more deeply is used when greeting someone you are meeting for the first time, or when seeing off a guest.

And the deepest bow is used when expressing thanks or when apologizing. It is said that the stronger your feelings, the more deeply you lower your head.
